Winter holidays on Usedom: beach walks, your own sauna and festive lights

By Julia & Tobias · With event tips for winter 2026/27

A long walk by the sea, cold cheeks and the anticipation of a warm sauna: that's what a winter day on Usedom can feel like. Between November and March there is time for long breakfasts, trips together and afternoons when a good book is all you need.

In the three Kaiserbäder – Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin – Christmas markets, light festivals and special beach events are part of the cold season, too. Plan your holiday just the way you like it: lots of peace and quiet, an event weekend, or a bit of both.

Our Strandnest holiday home in Seebad Ahlbeck, municipality of Heringsdorf (Kaiserbäder), is just 190 metres from the Baltic beach. With its own Finnish sauna, two bedrooms and 82 m² of living space for up to four people, it's a cosy base for your winter holiday on Usedom.

From the winter beach into your own sauna

A quick look at the sea in the morning, a longer outing after breakfast and back into the warmth in the afternoon: being so close to the beach lets you plan your day spontaneously. Even a short walk in between is worth it.

Back at the house, your own Finnish sauna is waiting. It belongs to the house and can be set to up to 100 °C; the walk-in shower is right next to it. Fit your sauna evening into the day whenever it suits you.

Afterwards, cook together or relax on the sofa. The equipped kitchen, the large dining table and the reading corner make it easy to enjoy a whole afternoon indoors. For couples, friends or a family, it's a lovely way to spend time together in winter.

Which winter month suits you?

November: sea air and glowing evenings

If you want a few days of rest before the Christmas rush, November is ideal. Plan time for beach walks and the sauna. “Lichterglanz – Meeresfeuer” in early November makes for a special occasion.

December: Advent by the sea

A visit to a Christmas market combines wonderfully with a stroll through the Kaiserbäder. Around New Year, the “Zauberhafte Winterwelt” in Heringsdorf adds extra variety to your holiday.

January: a quiet start to the year

A few days off after the holidays leave room for what everyday life often lacks: sleeping in, reading and spending long hours outdoors. If you'd like some action, plan your stay around the Winter Beach Festival in Ahlbeck.

February: a break for two or a weekend with huskies

A holiday home with its own sauna is perfect for a shared break from everyday life, for example around Valentine's Day. At the end of February 2027, Baltic Lights brings the beaches between Heringsdorf and Ahlbeck to life.

March: more daylight for outings

The days get longer and invite you on longer walks. For a family holiday in 2027 there's a specific occasion, too: the Easter Festival in the Kaiserbäder takes place at the end of March.

Walks between Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin

For your first holiday morning, one simple destination is enough: the beach. Take your time walking along the water, listening to the waves and stopping at Ahlbeck Pier. Depending on the weather and your mood, you can extend your walk towards Heringsdorf.

On another day, a visit to Bansin is a good idea. That way you get to know the three Kaiserbäder bit by bit without having to plan every day of your holiday.

For a change from the beach, try the Heringsdorf healing forest (Kur- und Heilwald). Paths lead through the woods past various exercise and sensory stations. Pack a windproof jacket, hat, gloves and shoes with good grip for your winter holiday.

You'll find more ideas in our things to do around the Strandnest.

A suggestion for three nights by the sea

On arrival day, there may still be time for a first glimpse of the Baltic Sea after unpacking. Then make yourself at home in the holiday house.

Reserve the first full day for a longer beach walk and a sauna evening. The second day is good for a trip to Heringsdorf or Bansin, a Christmas market or one of the winter events. Before heading home, there may still be time for a little stroll by the water.

And if it rains? Then breakfast lasts a little longer. The Strandnest has room for reading, games and cooking together. For an extra swimming and wellness day, the OstseeTherme Usedom offers pools and saunas. Current opening times are available directly from the spa.
